For those of you who don't know, Terra Australis is one of the latest fabric collection designs done by Emma Jean Jansen of Ella Blue. Needless to say, when I first caught a glimpse of this beautiful line, I knew I must have one of each fabric...at least.
I wanted to create a quilt with this line that would showcase each pattern and be a great mix of the colors and shapes. After much back and forth, I decided to do a sampler quilt. I designed my own blocks, picked out some favorites from magazines, and started sewing. This is what I came up with.

I knew I wanted to showcase those Aussie kangaroos, so I picked out Emma's free downloadable kangaraoo pattern.
Using applique' methods, I outlined, ironed, cut, ironed, and outline stitched these 'roos. I just love them. They are just perfect!
Next, I knew that the big print of the Warratah flowers needed the same focus as the kangaroos. Using my quilting block designer Electric Quilt 7, I made up my own version of the classic log cabin block.

I also made sure to keep the groupings of the colorways together so that they really complimented each other well in the block.
Next up, I knew I wanted a granny square. I went back to my EQ7 and came up with a block for that.

The last two blocks, I scoured my Quiltmaker magazines for one I loved. I found one from the Quiltmaker archives that I just had to make. The first is Summer Breeze by Pam Vieira-McGinnis pamkittymorning.blogspot.com. It can also be found in the Quiltmaker 100 blocks 5th edition.
Please forgive me, but I can't recall where I saw this next block. It's a great block and goes together quite quickly.
*Terrible picture, I know. :( But you see the pattern decent enough.

So that's it so far. I have done the sashing between similar blocks, but haven't decided how I want to finish it. I'm thinking of using the dark grey to line it all up and really make the brilliance of Emma Jean Jansen's color pallette pop. What do you think?
Keep sweating and sewing!
